Mendelssohn showed his strong musical talent at an early age. He began composing at 11 and wrote his first masterpiece by 16. Mendelssohn’s styling was based on Classical models but was also influenced by Romanticism, which lifted his work above the traditional. After holding the position music director of Dusseldorf, Mendelssohn accepted a similar Leipzig. Here he used his talent bring the Gewandhaus Orchestra such heights that Leipzig became musical capital of Germany.
